4 Dec 2017

On Friday the Club hosted a Sponsors Evening for the individuals, entities and businesses who had contributed either through financial contribution or goods/services in kind.

The Club laid it all on to show its thanks to those who had made 2017 a great year for the club and gave the Club to show its contributors the significant achievements made throughout the year. The Clubs WRFU representative players also attended to mingle with the Sponsors as a sign of the Clubs progress this year.

The Sponsors were treated to complimentary food & drink and were given a presentation by Club Committee Member, Keryn Martin. The presentation included:
  • A list of achievements the whole Club has made this year. To name a few:
    • a large number of junior/senior players made representative squads;
    • the club ran hugely successful events such as the OneStaff Christian Cullen 7s Tournament and a Suicide Awareness Charity Match;
    • Club revenue increased by 30% on previous year;
    • on field success with our U21 Colts winning the JRD Cup;
    • the largest Junior Club in the Wellington region;
    • the Club being Finalists in the WRFU Community Club of the Year award.
  • Details and a walkthrough of the Club room refurbishment plans;
  • Premier Coach, Phil Gibb, spoke about the Tuohy Homes Premier teams plans/goals for 2018;
  • Womens' Coach, Tala Misky, spoke about the Sandbar Premier Women's teams plans/goals for 2018;
  • A breakdown of the Junior Club achievements and plans for 2018.

The highlight of the evening was the sit down with former All Black/Hurricane/Lion and Club CDO, John Schwalger. Club Committee Member, Craigie Smith channelled Graham Norton to interview John about his vision for the Club, what motivates him to be involved with the Club and some of his goals for the 2018 season. An insightful 10 minute interview that entertained the crowd when John recounted some stories from his playing days.

Again, the Club would like to thank it's Sponsors, particularly those that attended, and we hope to see your continued involvement. For any prospective Sponsors, the Club is committed to maintain this upward curve of on and off field achievements and would love to see you become part of the journey.
